A SIBLING fight turned nasty when a Gweru man broke his married sister’s arm after she labelled him gay, a Gweru magistrate heard yesterday. Taurai Machingura, 35, had questioned his sister’s violent nature as she was in the habit of engaging in fights with her husband. A remorseful Machingura of Mtapa Section 3 told the court he could not control his anger after his sister’s gay insult. He pleaded with the magistrate to be lenient with him.
However, this did not stop Gweru magistrate, Vimbai Makora, from sentencing Machingura to a suspended four months in prison.
The four months were suspended on condition that he performs 70 hours of community service at Gweru Military Museum.
For the state, Prisca Kanukamwe said on July 14 this year, Machingura and his sister Charity Machingura were at home. Charity had just returned to her parents’ home from her matrimonial home after she fought with her husband.
Machingura asked his sister why she always fought with her husband.
Kanukamwe said Charity then told her brother to stop interfering in her married life.
She said the complainant then told Machingura that if he wanted to sleep with her husband, he was free to do so instead of blaming her for the fights.
This angered Machingura who then took a chair and hit Charity with it resulting in the sister sustaining a broken arm and a head injury.
Charity was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for treatment.
The matter was later reported to police leading to the arrest of Machingura.
