A Mutasa man has been arrested for killing his brother in a dispute over their father’s farm.

Richard Zongoro (41) of Hamudikuwanda Village B under Chief Mutasa allegedly murdered his brother John Zongoro (38) of Fenga Village at his homestead after threatening him with violence.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident.

He said Richard went to John’s house at around 1am on Saturday last week and threatened to kill him after he found out that the latter had applied for an order at Mutasa Magistrates Court barring him from using their late father’s farm. John came out of his bedroom, locked his wife and children inside and chased Richard away.

Insp Kakohwa said Richard picked up an iron hoe handle and hit John on the back and he fell down. “Richard hit John five times on the head and left him lying in a field near a footpath and went back home,” he said. John’s body was discovered at around 5am by Wilfred Mubata (28), who was on his way to his field, who then advised headman Edison Fenga, who reported the matter to the police, leading to Richard’s arrest.
