A Harare man attempted to kill his sister by setting her house ablaze after she had asked him to pay rent for a room in which he was staying, the Civil Court heard yesterday.
Selina Ndenguma claimed Francis was emotionally and verbally abusing her.
Ndenguma was seeking a protection order against Francis whom she was accusing of breaching her peace.
“He attempted to kill me by setting my cabin ablaze after I had asked him about my rentals which he was refusing to pay,” she said.
Ndenguma told magistrate Ms Audrey Tarugarira that she accommodated Francis and his family in her room on an agreement that he was going to pay rentals.
“It is a family house, but I am the one who extended the room which he is currently living in with his family. Each time I try to ask him about the rentals he becomes violent and starts verbally abusing me,” said Ndenguma.
Ndenguma told the court that he wanted Francis to move out of her room so that she could put her own tenants.
“I want this court to grant my application because I had endured a lot of suffering at the hands of this man,” she said.
Francis denied the allegations levelled against her by Ndenguma saying he never abused her.
“She is fabricating stories because I never verbally or emotionally abused her as what she had just alleged,” he said.
Ms Tarugarira granted the order in Ndenguma’s favour which barred Francis from verbally or emotionally abusing her.
She also ordered Francis to observe peace towards Ndenguma at all times.
