THERE was drama at the Mutare Civil Courts on Tuesday after a woman and her son protested against a court ruling which gave her brother the power to evict her from their parents’ house.Jane Gorogodo fumed after the court ruled that her brother, Sydney, had the power to evict her from the house he had inherited from their parents since he was the registered heir.
She complained that the matter was being handled unfairly since she had grown up at the said Zimunya Township house together with her brother.
“My father died in 1993 and my mother later in 2004. We have been staying at that house. I don’t know why he is acting the way he is doing,” she said.
Jane also asked the court to help her out saying that Zimunya house was the only place of residence she and her children have ever known.
“Where do you want me to go?” she screamed in court.
Sydney had brought the matter to the court seeking for an eviction order.
He told the court that he was now married and his sister was disturbing his new family’s peace.
“I need my sister evicted from my house, she disturbs my peace, she definitely should leave,” he said.
“The registered owner has the right to exclude and evict all unregistered occupants at the house regardless of how you are related to him,” ruled Mrs Anniah Ndiraya.
Just outside the courthouse, Jane shouted at her brother saying he had subjected her to outright poverty as she had nowhere to stay.
