The MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube has snubbed a reunion call from embattled MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, while MDC99 leader Mr Job Sikhala set conditions for reconciling with his former boss.
Mr Tsvangirai pleaded with Prof Ncube, Mr Sikhala and National Constitutional Assembly leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku at the weekend to return to the party to strengthen the faction-riddled outfit.
Mr Sikhala and Prof Ncube separated with Mr Tsvangirai in 2005 to form a splinter MDC, while Prof Madhuku said he was turning the NCA into a political party last year.
Addressing a rally in Budiriro high-density suburb, Mr Tsvangirai said there was need to strengthen the party by reuniting with old foes.
But MDC deputy spokesperson Mr Kurauone Chihwayi said Mr Tsvangirai, who presided over the split in 2005, had not shown remorse and could no longer be trusted.
He described Mr Tsvangirai as “a confused politician” who wanted to gain support by lying to the electorate.
“Tsvangirai is a confused politician who is good at grandstanding and making meaningless statements. We view his statements as baby shower noise that should not be taken seriously by a normal person.
“Tsvangirai is a documented noise maker with a tendency of lying for votes.
“We are a very serious political party with a very serious programme to pursue than listening to rubbish, said Mr Chihwayi.”
Mr Sikhala said Mr Tsvangirai should first reconcile with his colleagues, MDC-T deputy treasurer Mr Elton Mangoma and party secretary general Mr Tendai Biti.
He said Mr Biti and Mr Mangoma were integral pillars of the party as they were founding members.
“That can only happen if he can also reconcile with other members like Biti and Mangoma,” said Mr Sikhala.
Mr Tsvangirai crossed path with Mr Mangoma and his colleagues after the deputy treasurer suggested that he stepped down.
This resulted in Mr Mangoma being assaulted by party youths at a party meeting recently, while Mr Biti and youth leader Solomon Madzore escaped unhurt.
