Silo shops hailed

George Maponga in Masvingo
Government has been hailed for introducing Silo Foods retail shops across the country to cushion people against unscrupulous businesspeople wantonly increasing the prices of basic commodities.

People here have since called for the establishment of more such shops across the province.

Silo shops were opened by Government after the creation of Silo Foods Industries, a stand-alone commercial unit de-merged from GMB to sell affordable basic commodities as part of a thrust to stabilise prices on the market.

So far, 84 such shops have been opened at GMB depots countrywide with more in the offing.

Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chair Cde Eza Chadzamira last week said the Silo shops had brought the much-needed relief to ordinary people in rural areas in Masvingo.

“The concept of opening Silo shops that sell basic commodities at affordable prices was long overdue and they came at the right time because our people were feeling the pinch of runaway prices at the hands of greedy and selfish business people,” he said.

“Everywhere we go across the province, there is unanimity that the opening of Silo shops was exactly what the doctor ordered. People are very excited about the prospect of more such shops at GMB depots.”

Cde Chadzamira called on Silo Foods Industries to speed up the opening of more shops, especially in remote rural parts of the province where people were grappling with stratospheric prices of basic commodities.
