Silos collapse ‘like dominoes’ in Swellendam

Cape Town — Fourteen silos holding about 11,500 tons of canola seeds collapsed at the Sentraal-Suid Koöperasie agricultural co-operative in Swellendam yesterday morning, the company has confirmed.

CEO Ernst Pelser confirmed to News24 the steel structures had been filled to the brim when it started collapsing “like dominoes” at about 08:30.

The seeds were being stored for the adjacent B-well Canola oil factory. — News24
