AMBITIOUS Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Simba Bhora has so far spent more than US$200 000 in the renovation of their Wadzanai Stadium.
Simba Bhora, who will be playing their second season in the country’s elite football league, are bankrolled by famed businessman Simba “Buju” Ndoro.
Club administrator Jeremiah Kasawaya said renovations at the facility were progressing well with their procured consignment of bucket seats arriving in the country next week, according to their schedule.
“We have put in more than US$200 000 in the construction of our Wadzanai Stadium,” said Kasawaya. He added: “Right now, we are 90 percent complete in terms of the work on the stadium. We are expecting the delivery of bucket seats on February 6. They will be installed at the VVIP and VIP sections first before we go right around the stadium. Across the VIP we are creating a terrace that is almost 70 percent complete,” said Kasawaya.
Last year, Simba Bhora was forced to play their home games away from home in their maiden season in the topflight league as Wadzanai Stadium was deemed not fit to host topflight action.
The stadium in Shamva is being revamped to a 10,000-seater facility, with the club leadership hoping it will soon meet Premier Soccer League (PSL) standards.
Kasawaya said they are optimistic the rapid work on giving their home ground a facelift will be concluded in a short space of time.
Ahead of the forthcoming 2024 season, the club has been busy in the market.
They managed to lure several talented players including former Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona, ex-BUawayo Chiefs trio of Malvin Mkolo, Billy Vheremu, and Mthokozisi Msebe. Also now in the Simba Bhora camp are Bulawayo Dynamos midfielder Junior Makunike and Perfect Chikwende.
They have also added to their squad, ex Warriors goalkeeper Talbert Shumba. Former Dynamos goalkeeper Taimon Mvula and Wilson Mensah, formerly of Triangle, also joined Simba, as has Gift Saunyama, formerly of Black Rhinos, and Harrison Musina from Eastern Region Division One side, Hunters.
The Shamva-based side, which is under the guidance of Tonderai Ndiraya is looking forward to clinching the league trophy.
