JOEL Luphaphla says he is happy with Simba Bhora’s progress in their pre-season camp in Polokwane, South Africa.

The champions are preparing to defend the title they won in only their second year in the domestic top-flight league.

They will also represent the country in the CAF Champions League.

The team have been in Polokwane for the past three weeks, undergoing an intensive training camp as Luphahla tries to improve their fitness levels and integrating new signings into the squad.

“We are happy with the progress that we are seeing from our players,” he said.

“The pre-season is going on well and, as coaches, we can’t be happy until something becomes perfect.

“But it’s been three weeks of pre-season and here in Polokwane, the boys are doing well. We are on the right track.

“The new players are gelling well with the rest of the team.

“They have shown great attitude and determination, which is exactly what we need as we prepare for a challenging season ahead.”

Simba Bhora underwent a significant squad overhaul during the off-season, with several key players and former coach Tonderai Ndiraya departing for rivals Scottland.

Ndiraya took with him some of the players who were instrumental in the club’s success, including Walter Musona, Tymon Machope, Tichaona Chipunza and Mthokhozisi Msebe.

“Change is part of football and we have to adapt,” Luphaphla said.

“We have brought in new players who are hungry for success and the existing players have stepped up to take on more responsibility.

“The competition within the squad is healthy, and that will drive us to perform at our best.”

He added:

“I am grateful to the club’s management for what they have done. It’s not easy to fund a pre-season training camp outside Zimbabwe, but they have made it possible.

“This experience is crucial for us as we prepare to compete in the Champions League.

“It gives us a taste of what to expect when we play in foreign lands.

“By Thursday, we believe our club will have reached where we want it to be.

“The players are focused and we are ready to take on the challenges ahead. Our goal is to make a strong impression in the Champions League.”
