Flashing lights, red carpet and cameras all over you, who would not want the opportunity, entertainment’s biggest industry – Hollywood?
It is not only the dream of adults in the showbiz to be in Hollywood, but every teen’s wish to go there and enjoy the moments that are always screened on MTV or E-Hollywood.
Zimbabwean born Simba Tsumba popularly known as Amikostarz is walking the talk in Los Angeles, Carlifornia, as a music producer, drummer and audio engineer.
Simba who studied music at the Musicians Institute/UCLA says he is inspired by top local music icon Oliver Mtukudzi.
“I love music and growing up was much influenced by great musicians such as Travis Barker, Oliver Mtukudzi, and U2. After first performing to my friends and colleagues, their reaction too, actively inspired me to pursue my musical dream, to become the best, like they say.”
Simba said his studies have opened doors for him and will go a long way in developing his lifestyle.
“Studying at the Musicians Institute encouraged me to become sonically aware and attentive to minor details in music production and performance. The eclectic blend of the international student body enriched my musical experience and development,” he said.
Simba says he chose music as a career because it was his passion and can sustain livelihoods.
“My journey to LA came at a high price. A lot of hard work and a strong conviction to follow my dream,” he said.
His story is similar to another Zimbabwean renowned young music producer in the US, Brian Shoko, who is credited to have co-produced Beyonce and Jay Z song, ‘Drunk In Love’.
For Simba’ case, he played a vital role in the recording and production of Taps Mugadza’s, “Almost Home” project.
He co-wrote the song, “When You Said Goodbye” with Mugadza, and since its release it has caught the attention of the likes of Quincy Jones, Interscope Records personnel and other A&R’s at Dr Luke’s label.
Well Dr. Luke’s label is another most sought out stable in California which also worked with music stars like Katy Perry, Pink, Avril While continuing to produce for Perry, Lavigne, and Pink, Dr Luke has also worked with other famous international artists, including Taio Cruz, B.o.B, Britney Spears, Flo Rida, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Juicy J, Rihanna and Shakira.
Simba is now working with Taps Mugadza and Tinashe “T-Collar” Sibanda on a new project described as one that is set to raise the bar on their careers.
The talented producer has boasted of performances at world renowned venues such as The Hard Rock Cafe, House Of Blues, and most recently The Whiskey a GoGo in Hollywood.
Simba encouraged other teenagers to focus on their vision as the future is theirs.
“I would tell the young people to keep your goals high, work hard and dream big, be open minded and find creative ways to nurture your dreams. I have seen so much in the time I have been here and am excited for what the future holds,” he said.
