Linxiang has commended the mutual respect between his country and Zimbabwe.
Mr Yu who is leading a six-member delegation said this when he paid a courtesy call on Senate President Cde Edna Madzongwe at Parliament Building yesterday.
“China and Zimbabwe established friendship over 30 years ago and during that time things have changed but during that time China and Zimbabwe relations have not changed.
“We have enjoyed high level visits with each other and if I am not mistaken there have been over 17 high level visits from China to Zimbabwe while there have been over seven visits from Zimbabwe,” he said.
Mr Yu said during their visit his delegation will meet Chinese nationals based in Zimbabwe.
“We are going to see how Chinese people are working and living here and we will hold a seminar with the Chinese people to encourage them to contribute more to the economic and social life of Zimbabwe,” he said.
A number of Chinese people have settled and invested in Zimbabwe since Government adopted the Look East policy as a way to alleviate damage caused by the illegal sanctions imposed by the West.
Cde Madzongwe thanked the Chinese for their continued support.
“We are further appreciative of the Chinese Government because of the way you stood with us when the Western world united to impose sanctions on us.
“You, together with Russia vetoed them (at the UN Security Council) that is why we say they are illegal sanctions because they were not imposed by the UN,” she said.
Cde Madzongwe also thanked the Chinese for their moral and material support during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
