POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested six men in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted with an axe at his home in Klipspring West Acre, Umguza, on Saturday night.
The deceased, Prince Ndlovu, was allegedly attacked after a misunderstanding with one of the suspects at a bottle store before the dispute escalated into a fatal assault at his place of residence.
Police confirmed the arrest of Nhlanhla Sibanda (64), David Sibanda (32), Shelton Ncube (25), Dzingayi Madiri (26), Liford Mandlenkosi Mugayo (27) and Kelvin Ndlovu (37), all of Umguza.
Bulawayo Provincial Police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said the incident occurred on August 22 at about 6PM.
“On the 22nd of August 2026 at around 1800 hours, the now deceased Prince Ndlovu, a male adult aged 28 years of Klipspring West Acre, Umguza, met the accused person Nhlanhla Sibanda at West Acre Bottle Store where a misunderstanding arose,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
She said Sibanda allegedly struck Ndlovu once on the head with an empty bottle, prompting the deceased to flee to his home.
“Nhlanhla Sibanda then contacted his son David Sibanda, advising him about the dispute. His son teamed up with accused persons Shelton Ncube, Dzingayi Madiri, Liford Mandlenkosi Mugayo and Kelvin Ndlovu and proceeded to the now deceased’s place of residence,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
The suspects allegedly assaulted Ndlovu at his home, with police saying an axe was used to strike him on the forehead.
“The accused persons further assaulted him with an axe on the forehead, leaving him unconscious and bleeding profusely,” she said.
Asst Insp Ndlovu said neighbours reportedly summoned an ambulance, but upon its arrival, Ndlovu was pronounced dead.
A police report was subsequently made, leading to the arrest of the six suspects.
Asst Insp Ndlovu urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and desist from violence, warning that the use of dangerous objects during confrontations could have fatal consequences.
“We urge members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and to desist from acts of violence. The use of bottles, axes or any other dangerous object during disputes can result in serious injury or loss of life,” she said.
