Six injured as Toyota Hilux, bus collide

SIX people were injured yesterday, when a Toyota Hilux collided head-on with a bus along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge highway, close to the Bulawayo Student Accommodation Complex. 

The incident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Hilux encroached on the lane of the oncoming bus which was traveling from Kensington, Sihlengeni area. 

The injured six included drivers of both the Toyota Hilux and the bus, and four passengers from the bus. 

In an interview while attending to the scene, Bulawayo chief fire officer, Mr Nhlanganiso Moyo said they received the call at 4.30pm and they attended to the scene at 4.36pm. 

“The Fire brigade condoned the scene of the road traffic accident, removed six persons, who were injured from the bus and conveyed them to hospital by Brigade ambulance. There was no entrapment and the injured were conveyed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), the bus driver had some laceration,” he said. 

He said the fire brigade used a special detergent to decontaminate the 100-metre stretch that had oil spillage and rendered motor vehicle and road way safe. 

Mr Moyo urged drivers to desist from overtaking on blind spots and avoid unnecessary speeding.
