Matabeleland Tuskers skipper Gavin Ewing leads the Bulawayo contingent that has young pace bowler Njabulo “Papa” Ncube who was a marvel for Matabeleland Tuskers in the 2011-12 Castle Logan Cup which they won, spin bowler John Nyumbu, Craig Ervine, Tawanda Mupariwa and Bradley Staddon.
Stanley Staddon, the Matabeleland Tuskers chief executive officer said he was very happy that a number of his players were called up to the Zimbabwe A team.
“We feel that the coach and players’ hard work is being recognised.
“Having such a number in the national team is phenomenal and it is our hope that even when they come up with their final team, most of our players will make it in the final squad,” said Staddon.
Ncube and Ervine were in the provisional Zimbabwe senior team squad that won last month’s Twenty20 Triangular Series in Harare which featured South Africa and Bangladesh.
The two players are likely to make it for the Zimbabwe A final team but their clubmates also have equal chances of breaking into the team.
Bradley, a medium pace bowler received a call-up after sensational youth pace bowler Glenn Querl failed to turn up for camp.
According to media reports, Querl who is in England playing club cricket at Unicorns has been tied by overseas contract.
Ewing, Nyumbu and Mupariwa have been assisting Wayne James at the Matabeleland Tuskers Academy.
The final squad is expected to be announced later this week.
