SIXTY five babies have been delivered at the Scottland Medical and Maternity Centre since the health facility, which offers its services for free, opened its doors to the public in March this year.
Originally, the plan was to have a maternity clinic only, where expectant mothers in Mabvuku and Tafara would deliver their babies for free, but the owner of the facility, businessman Scott Sakupwanya, then decided to have a clinic which offered services for different ailments.
Sakupwanya is also the MP for the area.
“Since we opened our doors we have had 65 mothers delivering their babies at this clinic,” an official told H-Metro yesterday.
Work is in progress to extend the clinic which will see it covering two residential stands.
Another property has been acquired, across the street, and the house will be converted into a pharmacy.
Another property in the neighbourhood is also being considered for acquisition for the construction of a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts.
When the Scottland Medical and Maternity Centre opened its doors, it was meant to serve only the residents of Mabvuku and Tafara.
But, this has since changed and residents from other neighbourhoods and they are also being allowed to be treated at the clinic.
It means that residents of Epworth, Zimre Park, Chikurubi and other nearby areas are also being treated at the clinic for free.
