The Inaugural Perpetua Siyachitema mixed netball tournament is set to be scheduled on September 30 in Bulawayo at White City.

A total of 10 teams are set to battle it out on the day. Siyachitema is the former Gems captain and led the team to their maiden Netball World Cup appearance in 2019.

Siyachitema is now the coach of Glow Petroleum Queens and has won two consecutive titles. Currently she is enjoying an unbeaten run in the 2023 Rainbow Netball League season.

She has been named coach of the year for three consecutive seasons.

Event organiser’s representative Tashan Mtengwa said it’s imperative to recognise and celebrate Siyachitema’s influence and impact on female athletes in the country.  “We are looking forward to hosting a total of 10 teams,” he said.  “It is imperative that we recognise and celebrate Siyachitema’s profound influence on female athletes.

“Her contribution to netball cannot be overstated. Her journey began as a young girl in Zimbabwe with an unyielding passion for the sport.

“Through sheer determination and talent, she rose through the ranks and became one of the most prominent figures in netball history.”

“Siyachitema’s technical prowess, strategic brilliance, and unparalleled leadership skills revolutionized the game, setting new standards for excellence that continue to inspire players even today.”

He added,

“We are also grateful to the support that we have gotten from the Zimbabwe Netball Association and Filchrist Boarding in Shamva who have assisted us financially.  But we are still calling on other partners to come on board and make this day a success.”

“The tournament serves as a platform for personal growth, teamwork, and community engagement. One of the primary objectives of the tournament is to promote sportsmanship and fair play.”

“They provide an opportunity for players to showcase their skills while maintaining integrity on and off tournaments to the court.”
