Sizzla’s son in right place

Eighteen-year-old reggae singer Meleku says he is bringing originality and individuality to the music. His debut single is entitled Right Place. Produced by Big 12 Productions, the single was released about a month ago. Meleku (real name Melek Collins) is the son of veteran reggae artiste Sizzla. Initially, he said he had no interest in doing music. But that changed over time.

“As a child, I was more interested in sports, but my interest in music developed over a period of time because I was always seeing these different entertainers coming around,” Meleku told Jamaica Observer.

Right Place, he explained, came about by accident.

“That song happened by accident, because we went to the studio to work on a different project, but when I heard the riddim track I decided I wanted to write something for it,” he said.

The former Ardenne High student is enrolled at the University of Technology to major in marketing, with a minor in finance.

“I put the studies on hold for now to pursue music,” he explained.

He lists his father, as well as Garnet Silk, Chronixx, Buju Banton and Jesse Royal, among his musical influences.

“I plan to maintain my consistency in producing good-quality music by working harder and harder each time. I plan to spend more time with myself to explore different musical options because music is free,” said Meleku.

His next single African Child, also produced by Big 12 Productions, is due for release in September. – Jamaicanobserver.
