Skhu makes a comeback

FORMER urban grooves artiste Skhu will soon make a comeback as a gospel artiste after a seven-year sabbatical. Skhululekile Mpofu rose to fame in 2002 after the release of hit song Hamba Nobani which featured her younger brother Mbekezeli aka PoZee.

She went on a hiatus in 2007 to regroup before getting married traditionally in 2011 and giving birth to her daughter, Sibusiso.

The mother of one said she was returning as a gospel musician because she missed being in the music industry.

“I’m excited to announce that my team and I are working on my comeback. I really missed the music industry,” announced Skhu on her Facebook page.

Her manager Michelle Madau said the songbird was now born-again and wanted to preach the word of God to help others.

“Skhu wanted to sing gospel some years ago, but taxing responsibilities as a mother and wife forced her to shelve those plans. She could not do so as it was not easy for her to balance her marriage and music.

“But now, she is ready to take on the music industry,” Madau said.

She said Skhu would be in the studio next month where she will work on her debut inspirational gospel track.

But before getting into studio, Skhu will have to work on her vocals because she has not been recording for years.

“Skhu is rusty and needs a lot of practice and rehearsals for her voice to get to the optimum levels. She is working on that and will be in the studio in a month,” she said.

Madau said they were finalising artistes and producers who would work with Skhu on her gospel single.

“We’re yet to choose a producer from the three that we’ve identified. We’re also in the process of communicating with renowned gospel musicians who we want to feature on her single,” Madau said.
