SKYZ Metro FM, Bulawayo’s commercial radio station has been roped in to help in the rebranding of the new look Horizon Bar and Restaurant.

The popular nightspot that is situated on the mezzanine floor (between ground and first floor) of Pioneer House and was opened on December 17, 2010, will shut its doors this week to allow new management to takeover.

The CEO of Fairtalk communications, the parent company of Skyz Metro FM, Qhubani Moyo said they had been approached by the proprietors of Horizon to help them rebrand. “One of the owners Bruno actually works for Skyz Metro and they’ve engaged the radio station to rebrand and reposition as a brand of choice in Bulawayo. Their message to us is that every entertainment institution has a season and Horizon’s has come to an end,” said Moyo.

“Now they want to capitalise on the audience of the radio station to repackage and rebrand their institution and launch it under a new brand.”

He said he heard that people were saying they were taking over Horizon which was not true.

“Skyz is not in the business of restaurants and bars but is in the business of media and communications. We’re a platform for advertising,” said Moyo.

He said with the rebranding they were hoping to have a venue for their live shows as the radio station is on the 9th Floor of the same building.

Horizon has in the past played host to memorable shows with high profile South African artistes such as DJs Black Coffee, Tira, Oskido, Fresh, Kent, hip hop group Tear Gas, house duo Liquid Deep and Naak Musiq DJ Zinhle’s All White party was now a permanent feature at the nightspot every year.
