These are words we should hear almost everyday, and when that happens we should be looking at whichever young person these nice words are said to with admiration and hope in our eyes.
It happens a lot in economies that invest in young people. I am an avid supporter of Arsenal FC.
Our academy has produced a lot of stars, the most recent being Alex Iwobi who joined the academy at age eight, now both Nigeria and Arsenal are happy. A star is born.
I am both happy and sad for the star I will talk about today. Happy because I believe ita��s better late than never.
I am glad he is finally realising his dream and he is enjoying it. I am sad because our settings did not allow for it to happen sooner. We are wired in such a way that we only celebrate talent when it has worked its way up or is from outside the country. But what about natural talent without certification or access to resources?
I said it or called it that Skyz Metro FM will birth stars. I obviously referred to the artistes first and the presenters coming a distant second with their programmes and individual profiles.
Well, the results are already showing, mostly for the presenters, there are some really kind programmes and for that thank you Skyz Metro. To all those that did not understand when we celebrated this licence to broadcast, ita��s things like this that make it worthwhile. I am not saying the station is perfect, there is still a lot of work. Some have it, some want it and some dona��t have it.
Some programmes are in totally wrong time slots, some people could do better in different time slots too.
So who is the star?
This guy is no stranger in the arts. Many in the streets know him as a club DJ and brand ambassador for Miller.
Hea��s either called Hella Hella or Mr Miller. I am talking about Possenti Ndabezwe Sikosana. This guy has the silkiest voice on radio right now. His show is well researched and is entertaining in all its variations.
Before I share with you his programme, let me throw a punch at Star FM and ZiFM for not affording this guy an opportunity to bless the country. You guys are supposed to be the ultimate stations!
Why are you not affording people the opportunity to showcase from their regions? Maybe if you did, we may just hear a lot of local music from this end. But for now hands off our DJ.
Five days of my evenings are taken by radio. I am tuned in from nine to 12 to listen to what I term the best show on radio. Ita��s called The Soul Affair. On Sunday one listens to serious soul music in a show dubbed Soulidified Sunday.
His knowledge of music makes for interesting radio. On Monday he plays the Monday Mellow Madness show.
Playing love songs and reading out love messages. The best show so far is the one on Tuesday dubbed a�?Choosedaya�?.
Listeners get to choose which soul songs they would like to hear and they share their memories.
The mid-week affair is also a good one for movie enthusiasts as he first tackles a movie sound track and there is trivia about what happens in the movies before getting on with the usual. The last show is Throw Back Thursday and ita��s equally entertaining. I also like how he has been pushing his show online.
The show has an identity now and is a must listen to many. Until next week, be safe
