THE wife of slain armed robber Khumbulani Dhladhla, who was shot dead during a shootout with police last weekend, has appeared in court accused of participating in the robbery that led to her husband’s death.
Ronia Mavhiza and her accomplice, Paul Kurenje, appeared before magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa who remanded them in custody and advised her to approach the High Court for bail considerations.
The court heard that on October 20, Dhladhla, in the company of Ronia and Kurenje, approached the complainant Blessing Ngorima at Guzzlers Night Club at Kuwadzana 6 Shopping Centre.
Ngorima was in a black Nissan Note and they hired him to Dzivaresekwa.
They paid US$3 and promised to pay the outstanding balance of US$2 on arrival.
Kurenje sat on the back seat, Ronia sat on the front seat while her husband sat behind the driver.
Upon reaching a bushy area along Takawira Street, in Dzivarasekwa, Kurenje produced a knife and grabbed Ngorima by the neck ordering him to stop the motor vehicle.
Dhladhla used his shoe laces to tie Ngorima’s hands while Ronia took control of the car.
The trio drove to Dzivarasekwa 2 where they severely assaulted Ngorima and robbed him of US$50, an Itel A 15 cellphone with an Econet line and a pair of black and white sandals.
Ronia disembarked from the car with the stolen property while the two armed robbers drove away to the Lake Chivero area where they tied Ngorima on a tree.
The two robbers then drove the vehicle towards Mvuma.
Ngorima untied himself and went to Norton Police Station where he filed a police report.
When Dhladhla and Mavhiza were approached by detectives from Harare, it led to a shootout.
He was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital where he died.
Kurenje managed to flee but was arrested last week and implicated Ronia.
Anesu Chirenje appeared for the State.
