Slomo nurtures Klarry D

Upcoming Zim-dancehall chanter Klarry D, real name Admire Chigogo, has partnered with sungura musician Franco ‘Slomo’ Dhaka on musical collaborations both in the studio as well as on the stage.

The partnership will see the duo dropping singles which will be featured on both artistes’ albums while on the other hand they will be rolling their joint performances across the country.

The initiative is the brainchild of George Muropa, the founder of Marimbira Arts, who is also father and manager to Klarry D Muropa. George inspired his son to take up the artistic path. He said Franco was a good artiste and by collaborating with his son, he was upbeat that this would go a long way in pushing Klarry D’s music career.

“While I was good as an actor and radio scriptwriter, Klarry D seems to have his own way with music, coming up with compositions laden with constructive lyrics, something which defies his youthful age. This is the reason why we have decided to let him work with Franco in a development we hope will take his career far,” Muropa said.

Klarry D was upbeat that his joint efforts with Franco would yield positive results.

“I have a lot of respect for Franco and by hooking up with him, we hope that this will give my career a flying start. Music is a journey and you don’t have to walk alone,” he said.

He said music was his passion from a tender age.

“I grew up with a passion for music. I started singing while I was still in grade 2 at Dotito Primary School in Mt Darwin where I was part of the school choir. I started composing songs from what I witnessed from the day to day situations. However, it was only in 2014 that I started recording. Before that I used to feature during live show curtain-raising events for the likes of Kapfupi and Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria,” he said. Klarry D, who is currently teaching O Level subjects at a private college in Chitungwiza, described Freeman as his idol and said his lyrics were constructive.

“I hope studios and radio stations will promote my music. To my fellow upcoming musicians, education is the key in whatever you want to do,” he said.

His songs include “Hatina Hukama”, “Kushanda”, “Juju”, “Chi Independence”, “Kutsvaga Mari” and “Unondidhomotsa”.
