THE Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development has promised to work on ways of making registration and operation of SMEs much easier in order to promote growth.Speaking at the official opening of the Bulawayo Market Fair last week, the Bulawayo provincial head of SMEs, Enos Makaudze said as a ministry they were taking measures to ensure that the registration processes of SMEs was made easier.
Makaudze said the SMEs were creators of employment and the backbone of the economy hence the need to support them to ensure active participation in the revival of the economy.
“You are the employment creators and the backbone of the economy. You must be proactive and produce quality goods for the country,” said Makaudze.
He said SMEs should work hard to improve their competence to reach the international standards.
“If you produce quality goods that match international standards, we will be able to do away with imports. You need to be competent enough,” he said.
Makaudze urged the SMEs not to be narrow-minded but think big, share ideas and forge partnerships to promote growth.
Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor Martin Moyo, said such events were important as they offer SMEs exposure and improve their marketing skills.
“Such exhibitions are important. This is where you get exposure, improve your marketing skills and at the same time, sharing information and ideas to improve the sector,” said Clr Moyo.
He said small entrepreneurs should learn to work together as this would make access to resources much easier.
Exhibitors expressed gratitude to the organisers for providing them with a platform to exhibit their products and meet potential clients and partners.
“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase and market our products; such events help us to get exposure just as the trade fair,” said Mavis Mpofu.
Another exhibitor Veronica Mupande said she was happy to be part of this year’s event as it was an opportunity for her to market her natural and nutritious products that were good for health.
