This week we asked students, how best can the education system be improved and developed at universities? What do you think of girls competing with boys in sport?

This is what they had to say:

Education system can be improved in universities by adopting to technology.

For instance the use of e-learning can help student to acquire information online, without a lecturers assistance. It’s also deepens understanding because learners internalise concepts while gaining authentic skills. The universities can employee qualified lectures to bring better results, and lecturers should be monitored for their attendance to their lectures.

The girls and boys should be given equal preferences  academically due to gender equality it is now possible for female to achieve what boys can acquire, unlike back in the days where males were only allowed to be educated and females were to be groomed for marriage now gender equality has became prominent and it’s important for universities to practice gender equality and both genders can study further and achieve whatever they want. For instance,  law students should be taken with equal results, to promote gender equality.

The universities must adapt to new technology to remain competitive since technology has become a integral part of most students and also have an updated curriculum. Determining what these needs are, how to address them, and how to revise the established curriculum is a challenging and critical task.

This demand for change to meet the needs of a 2lst century educational program is challenging even for the best educational leaders because society’s values and needs change over time

Sporting clubs play a significant role in helping to shape community values, attitudes and behaviour. It also shows us there is a proven link between gender equality and building respectful relationships between men and women. Numerous studies show off-field factors linked to lower participation rates include harassment, cultural and social pressures and social stereotyping.

The aim is to learn ,to be equipped with the necessary armor so that we can face the real world, I will refer to it as an education system that operates as a non realistic profit to students business entity .the students want the degrees ;the proof that they spent four years to five to seven doing “something”, but what were their  learning conditions slide fed or voice over fed or whatsapp voice notes or the lecturer did provide an interactive platform to articulate the theory and the university offered the necessary environment to apply and carry out the practical aspect of the theory.

One of the major challenges university students are wailing on about is inadequate infrastructure and equipment, the current laboratory equipment with reference to at least developed countries’ standards , proper internet, yes students may need WiFi for other miscellaneous purposes but the university should provide average speed internet for research purposes.

A girl can never be equated to a boy . As much as we can try and say we are all equal , well there are certain skills we all have there about the Normal distribution but there are some in the outlying Regions for example firefighting very few women /girls are in that industry.

The concept of adult learning should be upheld in all universities. Students should be given the chance to have a say in the planning of the education system, basing the quality of higher education on textbooks only does not benefit  the students, a much more practical approach should be developed and implemented with the help and input of students .

Samantha Ngwenya

The University should partner with organisations in producing graduates who are competent in the industry and not only knowledgeable. The ground is equal when we talk of academics and sports, there is no male/female brain, there is a student’s brain, if one is capable why should they be limited? if one is physically capable why should they be limited?

Capability is the only aspect that should be used to determine preference over another, in short, yes girls should be given equal preference with boys in academics and sports.
