A TEENAGER from Tshabalala suburb in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly sodomising his 12-year-old brother and altering his date of birth on his national identity card from 1999 to 1993.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, allegedly threatened his younger brother with unspecified action if he told anyone about the incident.
The teenager is also accused of altering information on his birth certificate and National Identity document.
The teen is facing three charges – indecent assault, falsifying information on a birth certificate and national identity card.
Bulawayo Regional magistrate Mr Chrispen Mberewere remanded him in custody to October 26 for trial.
Prosecuting, Mr Simbarashe Manyiwa told the court that the teen’s mother was away from home when the incident occurred.
“The accused threatened the complainant saying he should never reveal the ordeal to anyone. Complainant later learnt that accused had been arrested for another offence and that’s when he told his cousin his encounter,” said Mr Manyiwa.
“Accused person was born in 1999 but he altered the date on his birth certificate to 1998 and used the altered birth certificate to attain a national identity card which he further altered to 1993 as his year of birth.”
