A PLUMTREE police officer and soldier have appeared in court facing charges of smuggling 1,314 pairs of shoes from Botswana. Francis Mutsoka, 34, a police officer and Innocent Malama, 32, a member of the Zimbabwe National Army, allegedly smuggled shoes valued at P30,240 through Mphoengs Border Post.

The pair was spotted by a security guard while trying to enter the country illegally through an exit gate at Mphoengs Border Post.

Mutsoka and Malama were first seen going into Botswana on February 24 in the morning and they returned on the same day at around 6PM.

Instead of proceeding to the entrance gate they drove towards the exit gate which is used by vehicles leaving the country.
