A 26-YEAR-OLD member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), was arrested for allegedly forcing himself on his underage girlfriend.
Lament Nyoni from Llewellyn, attached to the Zimbabwe Construction Regiment, stood before Bulawayo Magistrate Shingirai Mutiro, who remanded him in custody until 8 August.
According to Prosecutor Dominic Moyo, the harrowing incident took place on 13 July, around 6 PM. Nyoni met the 14-year-old complainant as she was returning home after collecting some fleeces from her mother’s workplace.
He led the minor to his residence, where he invited her to sit on his bed. In a disturbing turn of events, he removed her panties, put on a condom, and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
The matter came to light on 18 July, when the complainant returned home late, around 11 PM. Concerned, her mother began to investigate, uncovering the shocking truth.
She reported the incident to the police, leading to Nyoni’s swift arrest.
