A MEMBER of the Zimbabwe National Army has been remanded in custody after his initial appearance in court yesterday charged with an armed robbery in which his gang allegedly robbed a businessman of US$2 600 and R20 000.
Raymond Negomo Dzapasi, who is attached to the Inkomo Barracks, and his accomplice Joseph Bilson Makoni, appeared before regional magistrate, Tilda Mazhande, yesterday.
Allegations are that on November 6, last year, the two and their accomplices, who are still at large, attacked the complainant Antony Njanike.
Njanike was parked at Huruyadzo Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza at the time of the incident. The gang allegedly handcuffed the businessman and manhandled him.
They demanded cash and allegedly threatened to shoot him with the pistols they were armed with.
The gang took a bag containing cash US$2 600, R20 000, a Samsung S23 cellphone, two POS machines and fired shots into the air to disperse the crowd, which had gathered to see what was happening.
