SOLDIERS have been called upon to shun any form of corruption as well as drug and substance abuse while executing their duties.

Speaking in his keynote address during a joint Zimbabwe National Army graduation ceremony for 271 officers drawn from the Army, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, as well as the Ministry of Defence on Friday, Colonel Quartermaster Staff, Col Tryvern Nkoma, said the officers were also expected to avoid breaching procurement processes.

The officers graduated in Basic Cookery, Food and Beverages Services, Senior Catering Management, Basic Stores, Intermediate Stores Management, Procurement Junior Non-Commissioned Management, Basic Learner Drivers, Recovery Operators, and Mechanical Transport Senior Non-Commissioned Members Administration courses.

“Let me take this opportunity to urge you to shun away from all forms of corruption, especially in the Procurement Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Course.
You are expected to avoid, at all costs, breaching the procurement protocols and make it a point that every spending should be supported by a proper paper trail,” said Col Nkoma, adding that he remained confident that all the graduating students will be able to execute their duties professionally.

He said for all the basic courses, the officers were expected to adhere to the basic procedures laid down within the Ordnance and Transport Constitutions, as enshrined in the Accounting and Movement Regulations respectively.

“In the same regard, I strongly urge you not to partake in any criminal activities such as robbery, drug and substance abuse,” said Col Nkoma.
