SOS for university-bound rural 14 pointers

TWO teenagers from Rimbi, who excelled in last year’s ZIMSEC examinations by scoring 14 points in science subjects, risk missing out on a life-changing opportunity to pursue higher education due to financial challenges.
The pair, Blessing and John Mudhumo, were recently admitted into the Agricultural Engineering Programme at Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) under the institution’s Work and Learn Funding Programme.
However, despite securing places at the university, they are struggling to raise funds for accommodation and transport, placing their academic futures in jeopardy.
Blessing, who hails from Huchenani Village in Madhuku, lives with his elderly and ailing stepfather and comes from a disadvantaged background. His family’s financial circumstances have made it difficult for him to meet the basic requirements needed to take up his university place.

John Mudhumo, a former Rimbi High School student in Chipinge District, also faces similar challenges. Although both his parents are alive, the family is struggling with poverty and cannot afford the costs associated with his transition to university.
The two students’ outstanding academic performance earned them admission into one of the country’s specialised degree programmes, offering them a rare opportunity to transform their lives and contribute to Zimbabwe’s agricultural and engineering sectors. However, without urgent assistance, their dreams of pursuing higher education may be cut short before classes begin.
Well-wishers, community members, corporate organisations and other stakeholders willing to assist the students with accommodation, transport or financial support are encouraged to contact them directly.
