SOUTH Africa Emerging cricket team have levelled the one-day series against Zimbabwe after registering a 19 runs victory in the second match played at the Groenkloof Oval in Pretoria, South Africa yesterday.

Zimbabwe Emerging went into yesterday’s game looking to double their lead but it was the hosts who ended up making it 1-1 with three more games left to go.

In yesterday’s encounter, the visiting Zimbabwe Emerging team won the toss and elected to field first. The hosts, South Africa Emerging managed to bat out their full overs once again, scoring 295/8 in 50 overs.

Zimbabwe Emerging went on to crumble to 276 all out in 45,2 overs.

Leg spinner, Brandon Mavuta was once again in the leading wicket-takers’ mix for Zimbabwe Emerging. Mavuta finished with the best figures on the day for the visitors as he claimed four scalps for 66 runs in 10 overs.

As Mavuta led from the front with the ball, he was supported by fast bowler, Faraz Akram who finished with figures of 2/26 in his eight over spell. The other wickets that fell were taken by Victor Nyauchi, and Milton Shumba.

South Africa’s youngsters stood up to the task with the bat with two players scoring half centuries while two others fell in the 40s.

Andile Mokgakane top scored for the hosts with 70 runs off 60 deliveries while Matthew Boast remained undefeated on 51 runs after facing 63 balls.

The two South Africa Emerging batters that fell in the 40s are opener, Joshua Richards and skipper Mitchell Van Buuren who scored 43 and 42 runs respectively.

In their chase, Zimbabwe Emerging got off to yet another false start, losing an early wicket of Tadiwanashe Marumani for eight runs off eight balls. A quick-fire Wessly Madhevere half century and a Mavuta gallant fight were not enough to help the visitors cross the finish line.

Madhevere scored 55 runs from 28 balls while Mavuta top scored for the visitors at the back end of the innings with 65 runs off 40 balls. Clive Madande fell for 40 runs off 59 balls and the captain, Roy Kaia made 33 runs after facing 54 balls.

As the five match series is now tied at 1-1, there will be all to play for in the third match which is scheduled for Friday at the same venue. — @brandon_malvin
