South African Amapiano/kwaito musician Reece Madlisa kicked off the year with a stellar performance at Scooter Joint in rural Filabusi, Matabeleland South province, on New Year’s Day, entertaining a packed audience.

The artiste, upon arrival in Bulawayo on the day, was escorted to Filabusi in top-of-the-range cars. His journey to Filabusi included a stop at Ascot Shopping Centre, where he expressed admiration for the setup and a desire to explore tourist destinations in Zimbabwe.

Before taking to the stage, Reece Madlisa spoke about his amicable separation from former Amaroto colleague Zuma, emphasising their positive working relationship. The duo produced popular Yanos genre hits like Manebayeke, Jolani As’namona and VSOP.

Said Reece Madlisa: “I’m happy to be in Zimbabwe. After travelling this distance, I’m shocked to see people from deep rural areas appreciating my work. I urge them to fully support their local artistes as well.”

Taking the stage just after midnight, Reece Madlisa delivered a 30-minute set filled with energy and excitement.

Among locals who performed alongside the South African musician was Jaycee Rappadict, the opening act who impressed the crowd with his track Ungayithi Vuu. So good was his performance that he captured Reece Madlisa’s attention and had his potential acknowledged.

In a historic feat, Godlwayo Mahlabayithwale Communications (GMC), the event organisers, earned significant acclaim for hosting two major South African acts within a week, solidifying their reputation in the business. This comes after they hosted Big Zulu at the same venue on Christmas Day.

GMC’s media liaison officer, Sifiso Mafifie, expressed satisfaction with their achievements in the past year and pledged to continue bringing quality entertainment to Filabusi and other areas in the Matabeleland South province. – @mthabisi_mthire.
