South Africa’s GaaboMotho set for Harare debut

week, when they perform at a new concert and dining event in the city.
The four are the members of GaaboMotho – “where one belongs” – and they are Tebogo Makgwe, Mmusi Morekhure, Thabiso Masemene and Phenye Modiane, all of whom studied opera at the Vocal Arts Department of Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria and have been performing together since 2006.

GaaboMotho performed a special 2010 world cup song, “The Beautiful Game”, at a function in Düsseldorf, Germany and then sang the South African national anthem in Leverkusen, Germany before a soccer match between Germany and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
They have also sung at many commercial, charity and corporate concerts in South Africa, Uganda and Germany and their objective is to provide quality entertainment that will appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

Their repertoire runs from opera to pop and from rock to rap.
They will perform in Harare at the “Summer Night Concert and Festival”, to be held at the Borrowdale Racecourse grounds on the evening September 30.
This event, open to the public, features song, food and beverages under what is hoped to be clear summer sky.

It is being held with a link to the annual Rock Down Harare initiative – the RDH 2011 concert taking place at the same venue the following night. At the Harare event, wine and food tasting will precede the concert, which starts at 7pm. Wine and gourmet food will be on sale for those not attending the tasting event.
Event organiser, Minky Walters of Sound Event Management said: “We encourage people to bring blankets and chairs as the seating arrangements will be the same format as for the Harare International Festival of the

Arts opera gala, with an area reserved for those sitting on the grass and an area behind that for camping chairs.
“We thank our sponsors British Airways operated by Comair, African Sun and Westside distribution for their support in allowing this unique event to take place with such a distinguished singing group.”

Advance booking is recommended for the “Festival and Concert” as tickets are limited. Tickets are on sale at the Sound Event Management box office, located in the DStv retail shop at PaSangano, Avondale.

Tickets will also be available from the gate on the day, with gates open from 3.30pm. The “Festival” and pre-shows start at 4pm, when local entertainers will perform on the stage, and the main concert while GaaboMotho starts at 7pm.
