ACTION in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League will continue today with surprise inform Nkayi United set to take on Mainline at Plumtree’s Dingumuzi Stadium.
After having to be underdogs in this campaign, Nkayi United have been surprising all and sundry posting convincing results in a league that ex-Premier Soccer League (PSL) sides Hwange and Bulawayo Chiefs were previously tipped to walk away with the top accolade on a silver platter.
Sitting on top of the table, United, who are under the guidance of Daniel Ndlovu and bankrolled by Kingdom Blue, will be hard-pressed to collect maximum points to stay at the apex.
In the previous round of play, Bulawayo Chiefs managed to reduce the gap between them and log leaders Nkayi United to just one point after edging Zebra Revolution 1-0 at the Chiefs Village.
Nkayi United are on 41 points and second-placed Bulawayo Chiefs are on 40, five ahead of third-placed Hwange.
Chiefs are today set to play a tricky away fixture against the Mthuilisi Maphosa coached Blackrock at Hwange’s Cindrella ground.
“We will keep fighting. The league is still on and we cannot underestimate any side. We hope to pick up points away from home,” said Bulawayo head coach John Nyikadzino.
The Twitter Kings have experienced players that include captain Kelvin Madzongwe and Malvin Mkolo, among others, to bank on for a positive result.
Kudzayi Mhandire will lead his Talen Vision charges when they take on power generators Megawatt at Chakona.
Talen Vision, who recently secured the signature of ex-Warriors captain Danny “Deco” Phiri from Zifa Central Region Division One side, are on number five with 29 points.
Hwange have an away fixture against army side Imbizo at Llewellin, while Zebra Revolution entertain Bosso 90 at White City’s B Arena.
Casymn and Nust will fight it out at Turkmine, with Jordan Sinnot set to do battle against Bulawayo Warriors at Filabusi’s Mthwakazi ground.
Victoria Falls City Herentals have a home date against the league’s newboys, Eagle Life.
The game between Ajax Hotspurs Movers and Bulawayo City has been cancelled.
