BULAWAYO Professional Pool Players Association held challenge matches on Monday at the Maison Nic bar. There were categories — ladies, elders and open — and Priscilla Vari Gaka Chisoro emerged victorious against Flatta Moyo of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services in the ladies category, winning by five games to three.

She collected $100 for her efforts.

“Flatta is a very good pool player and I’ve so much respect for her. Winning against a formidable opponent like her is good because it shows that my game is improving,” said Chisoro.

In the elders category (35 years and above) Mgcini Sibanda (ZRP Central) played against Fortune Tavengwa (Exchange). Tavengwa won the match by five games to three. He too received $100 for his efforts.

Paul “Macheso” Mutizo (Kings) lost to Emmanuel Rapasi (Entumbane) by seven games to six in the open catergory.

BPPPA public relations officer Tapiwa Sikwila said the aim of the association was to make sure that players compete regularly to upgrade to professional standards.

“We hold these games to ensure that players get ample game time to improve their game. We’re striving to assist people in being familiar with international standards of the game. There are 100 professional players registered and we seek to see that number rising as the sport grows in popularity,” said Sikwila
