Speaker hosts SADC Parliamentary Forum secretary-general

THE Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, on Monday received a courtesy call from the Secretary-General of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF), Ms Boemo Sekgoma, and her delegation, reaffirming the strong partnership between the Parliament of Zimbabwe and the regional parliamentary body.

Ms Sekgoma is leading a delegation on an official mission to Zimbabwe from June 28 to July 4.

The delegation comprises SADC PF Programme Manager for Climate Change, Environment and Health/Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Mr Munashe Tofa, and Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, Dr J. Segale.

Their visit coincides with the Joint Meeting of SADC Ministers of Health and Finance, which is being hosted by the SADC Secretariat at a Harare hotel from June 29 to July 3.

The high-level regional meeting seeks to strengthen cooperation among SADC member states on health financing, climate change, environmental sustainability and the implementation of programmes that promote health and development across the region.

During the courtesy call, Speaker Mudenda and the SADC PF delegation discussed issues of mutual interest, with both parties reaffirming the long-standing collaboration between the

Parliament of Zimbabwe and the SADC Parliamentary Forum in advancing parliamentary democracy, regional integration and sustainable development.

The visit also underscores Zimbabwe’s growing role in regional parliamentary diplomacy and its commitment to supporting SADC initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of citizens through strengthened legislative oversight and regional cooperation.
