SPEAKER of Parliament Advocate Jacob Francis Mudenda has met International Monetary Fund Country Representative Dr Daniel Gurara at his offices at New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden, where they discussed various issues, including the Legislature’s oversight role in the implementation of the IMF-approved staff-monitored programme (SMP) adopted by the Government last month.

The Government adopted the new 10-month-long non-financing SMP designed to consolidate stabilisation gains and strengthen macroeconomic management.

The informal agreement aims to establish a credible reform track record to support the country’s broader strategy toward debt restructuring and arrears clearance.

In his remarks after the meeting, Dr Gurara said Parliament had an important role to play in its oversight role in ensuring a successful implementation of the SMP and pledged the IMF’s support in that regard.
