ENTEMBENI Old People’s Home received a shot in the arm with a donation of 20 bags of rice by the Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda.

Entembeni Old People’s Home is a residential facility for the elderly located in Old Luveve, Bulawayo, just behind the local clinic.

Established in 1967, the shelter relies entirely on donations and community outreach to support its residents, who frequently require basic groceries, toiletries, and infrastructure improvements.

Currently, Entembeni Old People’s Home houses 57 residents with the majority of the elderly suffering from dementia, according to the home’s board chairperson, Mr Newman Sibanda.

Ncube hailed the Parliament of Zimbabwe for the timely donation.

“I’m here standing in for Speaker of Parliament Adv Mudenda, whom you all know is from Matabeleland region in Binga. He is a former Governor who did a splendid job for our region.

“Today (yesterday) he donated 20 bags of rice that will go a long way in ensuring that the elderly residents of Entembeni Old People’s Home have nutritious meals every day.

“He was tied up somewhere, so he asked me to come here and make the donation on his behalf, and has done a great job,” said Minister Ncube.

She said the elderly have played a vital role in the independence of Zimbabwe and shaping its future since 1980, hence they deserve to be taken care of.

“It’s our duty to take care of the elderly in our communities and as their children and grandchildren, we’ll do everything we can to make their lives as comfortable as possible,” she said.

Entembeni Old People’s Home Board Chairperson, Mr Sibanda welcomed the donation that he described as an early Christmas present.

“This is not the first time that Speaker of Parliament Advocate Mudenda and the Parliament of Zimbabwe have assisted the home. We now have a solar system that was donated by Advocate Mudenda so we don’t have a problem when we encounter load shedding in Luveve,” said Mr Sibanda.
