A NUMBER of schools enrolling children with disabilities are exhibiting at the Harare Agricultural Show where they are showcasing the children’s skills and talents in various forms of arts and learning experiences. Speaking at their exhibition stand on Wednesday, ZimCare Trust administrator Mr Farai Chiwonga said children with disabilities who have been taught weaving and pottery have now found life easy as they are able to earn some income.
“We are trying to make our children to be more resourceful and this has helped a lot as they have been able to do self-sustaining jobs after we trained them,” he said.
“Various institutions will display their profiles with attendants at hand to explain to the people how they work with children with disabilities.
Some institutions like Danhiko, Munashe Special School, ZimCare Schools and Emerald Hill are showcasing what the children do in visual arts.”
The Disability Living Conditions Survey published in 2003 stated that 29 percent of children with disability (34 percent female and 22 percent male) never attended school, in comparison with 10 percent of non-disabled children (12 percent female and eight percent male).
Efforts to revive dedicated services for children living with disabilities include a national cash transfer programme benefiting more than 30 000 of the poorest and most vulnerable families, 60 percent of which include people with disabilities.
The schools enrolling children with disabilities like Copota School of the Blind in Masvingo offer practical lessons for the children in handicrafts that can be sold on both local and international markets.
When they leave school, such pupils are able to establish their own workshops if they receive enough funding. — The Herald.
The adventures of Justin Bieber
WHAT a thrill-seeker: Justin Bieber makes the most of his time off by getting inked and conquering his fear of sharks.
He’s enjoying a few weeks off before he continues his world tour, but Justin Bieber isn’t spending his break lazing about at home.
The 19-year-old is packing in the activities, with the star spotted getting a new tattoo before hitting Barbados last week.
The teen even managed to conquer his fear of sharks as he splashed about in the crystal clear waters with his pals.
Justin is currently on a break from his globe-trotting Believe tour which began way back in September 2012.
With the chart-topper’s next date not until September 23 in Singapore, the teen has been making the most of a few weeks off.
Justin made sure he found the time to add to his growing tattoo collection on Monday night as tattoo artistes from Deer’s Eye Studio posted photos of the star’s new ink on Instagram: “Last nights tattoo session with the Lil Homie @justinbieber and @chueyquintanar . . . #justinbieber #bieber #beiberfever @deers_eye_studio #blackandgraytattoo”, they wrote.
The new piece of ink follows Justin’s four hour session at Bang Bang tattoo parlour in New York earlier this month where he started his sleeve with a design featuring roses and clouds.
Justin has also been seeking more thrills away from the tattoo parlour during his time off.
On Tuesday the singer was spotted sunning himself in Barbados with his close friend Lil Za.
The star and a group of friends have jetted to the idyllic isle for a relaxing few days in the sun, but proving he can’t sit still for long, Justin was soon getting involved in another thrill-seeking activity.
The star was pictured surrounded by Nurse sharks as he and Lil Za paddled in the crystal clear Bajan waters at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club
Justin was spotted stripping down to some long baggy shorts as he splashed around in the shallow water, showing off his collection of tattoos. It looks like the teen has got over his self-confessed fear of sharks, with the star revealing last year:”I’m afraid of sharks.
I have (swam in the ocean) but I don’t like it. I’m just scared of sharks I guess.”
The star has previously ventured close to the sharp toothed creatures, when he swam in a tank full of sharks and beautiful women for a video to promote his Believe tour last year.
But the superstar admitted that he didn’t exactly enjoy the experience, confessing: “I’m terrified of sharks. I was so scared. I hate sharks. It took, like, an hour for me to even jump in the water.”
Luckily for Justin the Barbados creatures are Nurse sharks who whilst able to grow up to 14 ft are not considered a threat to humans.
Justin seems to be packing in the adventures during his break, with the teen idol pictured partying with rapper Jay-Z and comedian Kevin Hart at a nightclub in Miami a week ago.
Just a few days earlier the young singer was hanging out with actor Will Smith whom Justin calls his “uncle”. — Dailymail.
