THE disbursement of devolution funds to local authorities by the Second Republic has positively impacted local businesses and suppliers.
A local specialised vehicle manufacturer, Pro Choice which develops mobile clinics, ambulances and fire-tenders, is one such company that has immensely benefited from the funding.
Managing director of the company, Mr Prosper Muchenje, said as most local authorities were availed funding, most were channelling towards health service delivery.
His company kitted a state-of-the-art ambulance that was commissioned together with six pieces of road maintenance equipment by Hurungwe Rural District Council (HRDC) on Tuesday.
Said Muchenje: “We are grateful to the devolution funds as they are pumping life into our local businesses.”
He said his company has managed to build 10 more ambulances that have been procured by local councils across the country.
A beneficiary of the land reform programme, Muchenje said, he introduced the business model as a way of showing gratitude to the Government while at the same time reducing the forex import bill.
His company also manufactures farming equipment.
The locally assembled ambulances are relatively cheaper as compared to the imported ones. HRDC chief executive officer, Luke Kalavino said they had also given tenders to locals for the construction of schools, clinics and installation of solarised street lights.
