FORMER England Rugby Union female player Catherine Spencer is in the country to attend the Old Mutual TAG Rugby Trust Champions Tournament set for tomorrow at Eaglesvale High School in Harare.

Eight teams, which include Sharks from Harare, Railton Leopards (Hwange), Scorpions (Harare), Stormers (Bulawayo), Crusaders (Bulawayo), Elephants (Harare), Bulldogs (Harare) and Tigers (Victoria Falls) will be vying for honours.

Spencer will work closely with the Girls Legacy in Zimbabwe, an organisation that does counselling, inspires, uplifts and empowers girls of all ages in high density areas around the country.

She is also involved in promoting vulnerable women and helping them get their stories to the world. Spencer was first selected England captain in 2007 and led the team at the 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

“We will be launching a programme called Female Inspiration Through Rugby (FITR) on Sunday. Catherine as our ambassador is here to show support for the initiative and guidance through her knowledge as a woman who has inspired many all over the world through rugby,” said Tag Rugby Trust Zimbabwe manager Tinashe Shamu.

Spencer will also attend a symposium for about 300 girls being run by the Girls Legacy programme at Zesa Training Centre in Harare on Sunday.
Sharks, Leopards, Scorpions and Stormers have been grouped in Pool A, while Crusaders, Elephants, Bulldogs and Tigers are in Pool B.

The top two teams in each pool will compete for the main cup, while the others will battle it out for the plate competition — @khumzallen.
