THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) will conduct a Sports Administration course in Bulawayo on March 23 and 24.

Mhlahlandlela Government Complex Conference room is the venue for the course where participants are expected to pay US$30 which is inclusive of meals and learning materials.

Payments are to be made at SRC offices situated at Khumalo Hockey Stadium.

“The SRC was created by the Act of Parliament (1991) and is mandated to, among other objectives, ensure that there are standard sport education courses.

“It is against this background that SRC Bulawayo Metropolitan Province will conduct a Sports Administration Level one course.

“Modules to be covered include Organisation of Sport and Recreation in Zimbabwe, Sport and Recreation Governance, Community Sports and Recreation Club concept, Leadership and Management in Sport, Safe and Inclusive Sport, Volunteer Management as well as Marketing and Sponsorship in Sport and Recreation among other,” reads a statement from the SRC.

Target groups for the course include provincial sports associations, community clubs, Physical Education teachers, organisers of Naph and Nash competitions, coaches and managers.  Certificates will be issued to participants upon course completion of the course.

Globally, sport and recreation have become drivers of national economies and branding.

The constitution of Zimbabwe enjoins the state to take all practical measures to encourage sporting and recreational activities, including the provision of sport and recreation facilities for all.

As such, it has become imperative for the Government to invest concerted efforts and optimal resources for the attainment of tangible results through sport and recreation development.

The Second Republic has accordingly invested efforts and resources to ensure increased participation by all Zimbabweans in physical activities and sport.

In line with the new thrust, and, as enshrined in the National Development Strategy 1, Government has put in place comprehensible sport and recreation delivery systems that are traceable from the grassroots.

The systems are durable enough to eliminate social fragmentations, as well as instill sound management in the sector for social and economic gain. -@innocentskizoe
