A SPORTS and arts festival for Kambuzuma, Warren Park and Rugare residents was held last weekend to discourage drug and substance abuse and encourage responsible fun among young people.

Ward 15 (Warren Park) Councillor Tafadzwa Machirori said if children were occupied with sports, their chances of thinking about engaging in drugs were slim.

“So we encourage young people that when they are not in school, they should engage in sporting activities and not engage in drugs and sexual activities because they have nothing to do, these things harm their health and their lives,” he said.

Clr Machirori encouraged cleanliness and discouraged bad habits such as throwing litter from a moving vehicle and proper sewer management to reduce sewer bursts, which also cause cholera and other diarrhoeal diseases.
