EIGHT schools will meet at Mushunje Secondary School in Marange on Thursday for the second Tinnah Foundation Schools Tournament.
Hosts, Mushunje, Karirwi, Shundure, Matanda, Bemhiwa, Marange High, Chikwariro and entrant Munyoro will compete in football, netball and volleyball.
The inaugural edition last year featured football only.
Chikwariro won, Karirwi and Bemhiwa finished second and third, respectively.
Former Buffaloes player, Tinashe Chinyowa founded Tinnah Foundation.
Chinyowa, now based in Gaborone, Botswana, attended Mushunje Secondary in Marange.
“My thinking in coming up with this project is that I will be able to help some youngsters from my community through this initiative. I experienced the lack of opportunities that children that grow up in such areas go through. Therefore, I think I can give back to my community through this tournament so that clubs and coaches in Mutare and other areas can come down to Mushunje and scout for raw talent.
“It is also an initiative that meant to give these youngsters hope for a better future through sport. When we have such tournaments some of the youths might be able to see that there can be a better future for them. It will go a long way in helping them shun drugs and intoxicating substances because they can now see the potential in their own talents. I started this initiative last year alone and this year again I am doing this alone. However, I now have partners that are coming in for next year and it will certainly be a bigger and better third edition next year,” he said.
