Police will continue to develop various platforms like sports galas for interaction and co-operation among members in the fight against crimes of national concern, a senior officer has said.
Officer Commanding Harare province Senior Assistant Commissioner Clemence Munoriarwa said yesterday that interactions between the force and the public also built mutual trust.
He was speaking at the Commissioner-General of Police Sports Gala competitions send-off ceremony for participants from Harare.
The sports gala will be held at Morris Depot from August 17 to 23.
Snr Asst Comm Munoriarwa said: “These games were established in endless pursuit to further the bonds of cooperation and solidarity among members of the organisation in the fight against crimes of national concern.
“The ZRP continues to develop platforms for interaction and close co-operation among its members through sport such as the one you are going to participate in.”
Harare province will send 253 participants who will compete in all the 15 sporting disciplines: athletics, chess, cricket, darts, first aid, golf, netball, pool, power lifting, rugby, squash, table tennis, tennis, soccer (men and women), and, volleyball (men and women).
