Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Huang Ping hosted children from Dzikwa Trust Orphanage in Dzivaresekwa, Harare, on Wednesday at the Spring Festival celebrations at the embassy.
Ambassador Huang said his embassy decided to celebrate the Spring Festival with orphans as a gesture to show them that they are not alone.
“The Spring Festival is very important to the Chinese because it is a time for family members to get together and share happiness, but today we opened this house – the embassy – to the children from the orphanage,” he said.
“The children may not have a family, but they are not alone and we want to share the happiness with them as we celebrate this festival.”
Ambassador Huang said the children were talented and they had a bright future.
“China and Zimbabwe enjoy very good relations and we need more and more people to join us in strengthening this friendship,” he said.
“To further enhance this friendship we are bringing people together to increase their understanding and that mutual understanding helps to build a solid foundation for these good relations to grow.
“These children are the future of Zimbabwe and are the future guardians of the relationship between Zimbabwe and China, so by inviting them to learn about the Chinese culture, history and values, they will know more about China.”
Ambassador Huang said they were organising various activities for the children in Zimbabwe such as the Dream Star, which is sponsored by the Chinese community.
Dzikwa Trust founder Mr Seppo Ainamo said they were thrilled by the invitation.
“It is a big opportunity for the children to perform for him,” said Mr Ainamo. “We have three students from our orphanage who are currently studying in China.
“We believe that it is very important for the children and it is a fantastic opportunity to see how life is outside Zimbabwe as it prepares them for the future.”
