SRC approves SRZA South Africa tour

THE Squash Rackets Association of Zimbabwe (SRAZ) has been given the approval to participate in an inter-provincial tournament in South Africa.

SRAZ wrote to the Sport and Recreation Commission (SCR) requesting permission to travel and take part in the South African Under-19 Inter-provincial Schools Squash Tournament.

The inter-province competition is scheduled for 24-28 June.
The approval came with conditions that SRAZ has to meet before travelling to SA.

“The tour shall, in addition to the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines on the safe conduct of sport, be subject to the following conditions:

“Team to adhere to applicable health, travel and international federation regulations and protocols; Association (SRAZ) to furnish the SRC with a report detailing team performance on tour.

Please note that all these requirements must be observed without exception and SRC expects full compliance by all your team,” reads the approval letter from SRC Director General, Elleta Nengomasha.

The Zimbabwean team is made up of players who did well during the Zimbabwe Junior Squash Championships which were held in Bulawayo in February.

SRAZ has been working around the clock trying to raise funds for the youngsters to travel to SA.
Their latest fundraising event was on Africa Day when a fun walk was organised which also was part of their drug and substance abuse awareness campaigns.

After the South African tournament, another group of Zimbabwean youngsters is set to take part in next month’s World Junior Championships which will take place in Australia.

The global showdown is set for July 18.
The South African tournament and World championships will provide Zimbabwean youngsters with the much needed experience and exposure to the highest level of the game.
