ABOUT 40 participants are expected at a two-day sports and administration basic course being hosted by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) Bulawayo at Khami Prison starting today.

The two-day course, which will be facilitated by SRC coordinator Sam Dzvimbu, Dumaza Dube and Samuel Nyawo, is aimed at training administrators to take a leading role in sports development.

“We want people to have basic knowledge on how sports have to be run. It’s our mandate as a commission to equip people with the necessary skills so that sport develops in the country. Khami has various sports club executives in different areas and we want to improve their administration skills,” said Dzvimbu.

He said administration was a key driver of sport growth.

The SRC has already held three similar courses in Bulawayo and is set to hold more courses to ensure uniform standards in sports and recreation management.

The same course is also being held at Chaplin Hall in Gweru where Zifa officials are expected to attend.

SRC Midlands provincial sports coordinator Simon Masaka said they were expecting a huge turnout as teachers from Gweru schools had expressed interest in the course.

“This course will see the development of sports. It will impart knowledge on the administration of sports centres and teach on how to report to the SRC and the Ministry, as well as what’s expected of managers and other technical people,” said Masaka.
