SRC football probe not platform for name-calling: Moyo

Sports Reporter
CHAIRMAN of the Sports and Recreation Commission’s football probe committee Obadiah Moyo has said public inquiries they are conducting are not a platform for name-calling.

Other members of the committee are former Hockey Association of Zimbabwe president Farai Kanyangarara, Miriam Mushayi and Jessie Nyakatawa.

The team will hold closed sessions with certain football groups at the SRC offices at Kumalo Hockey Stadium today.

This would be followed by public hearings at the Bulawayo Polytechnic College tomorrow. The public hearings will be open to those interested in the state of football in the country.

Problems bedevilling Zifa forced the SRC to embark on this exercise and the committee is expected to submit its report by July 31, 2015, after which the full SRC board will decide on the recommendations.

There are fears that some Zifa officials are planning to bus people to disrupt the public hearings in Bulawayo. Moyo said it would be difficult to detect and bar people bussed in for the meeting.

“These hearings are meant to gather diverse views. For those who think they will come in their numbers to disrupt the gathering, may they be warned that we will not allow people to keep repeating the same issues. People should know that this is not a platform for name-calling.

“This is meant to find problems and challenges that football administration is facing so that the findings are used to develop the sport,” said Moyo.

“In both cases, interested and concerned stakeholders are invited, including media personnel and all Zifa structures from Area Zones to the club executives.”

Moyo said people were also free to submit written submissions at today and tomorrow’s meetings. The written submissions can be made up to the end of next week, and Moyo said those unable to attend the meetings can drop their submissions at an SRC office close to them.
