THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) will this morning hold an induction workshop for the National Youth Education through Sport (YES) festival in Hwange on behalf of the local organising committee.

The induction workshop comes ahead of this year’s edition of the games to be held in the same town in early December.

SRC communications manager Tirivashe Nheweyembwa said Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs Minister Cain Mathema will officially open the workshop.

“The SRC will conduct an induction workshop for the local organising committee for the National Youth Education through Sport festival, which is set to be hosted by Matabeleland North. The YES festival will take place in Hwange in early December and acts as a precursor to the hosting of the 15th edition of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games next year in August in the same province,” said Nheweyembwa in statement yesterday.

The SRC team will be led by the Games’ project manager Martin Dururu.

Some of the aspects that will be covered at the induction workshop include sport event organisation and management, volunteer recruitment and effective deployment, sport facilities selection criteria and sports marketing and publicity among others.

Inaugurated in 1999, the YES Games’ purpose is to impart life skills to the youths through sport. The YES programme is anchored on three components, Sport, Peer Education and Community projects.

The three components have an equal weighting in the competitions for the ultimate result of the winning teams, with points awarded on an equal basis.

The programme is implemented across the country’s 10 provinces.

Last year’s Games were held in the Mashonaland West capital of Chinhoyi.
